A family, a drum, and some very easy words
Write a book using only words that appear before "clam" in the dictionary. That's the English equivalent of writing for level 1 in our "I Can Read!" series.
At this point, children have learned only a handful of the Lao letters. We want to give them practice, to firm up what they've learned so far, before they continue. And most of all, we want to show that reading is fun. There's a reward waiting, when they learn to read.
Tong and Nong opens with a brief story about Tong and his sister (nong) and a drum (gong). Then it moves on to other brief stories and verse, all colorfully illustrated.
